Team Seismic Heartbeat illustrates how earthquakes can teach us about the chemical and thermal evolution of the earth.

THE SCIENCE | MELODY LI

Melody uses earthquakes to understand the evolution of the earth. Dozens of earthquakes are happening every day, releasing massive amounts of energy, but we don’t notice most of them because they happen at the core of the earth and are too small. The energy of all these earthquakes travels through the earth as seismic waves. Melody uses a seismograph to see these waves and by looking at the shape and size of them she can learn about the chemical and thermal evolution of the earth.
THE ART | DANIEL BECKER

Daniel has used the imagery of a "heart" as the
core and the "heartbeat" characteristics of seismic movements and earthquakes. 

The design incorporates a diagram from Melody that shows the different seismic waves shapes that she looks for in the data she collects.

Through repetition Daniel created a really chaotic "ripple" effect inside the Earth, representing the pulsing seismic waves that Melody listens for in her work.

  • OUR SHIRTS

    We produce high quality shirts so you can wear them everyday and spark all of those science-ey conversations.

    Our shirts are made from a mid weight, 180 GSM, 100% combed cotton (aka a great shirt). They are also preshrunk to minimise shrinkage (phew).

    Shirts are sourced through AS Colour as they have high quality products and transparent ethical processes, see here.

    To minimise our enviromental impact our shirts are printed on demand with water-based inks and are shipped in home-compostable packaging (yay compost!).

    Everywhere else: $20

    You can return your shirt up to 30 days after purchase. Simply send the product back to us in the condition it was received for a new size or store credit.

    Sometimes mistakes happen so if your shirt isn't what you expected let us know and we can send you the right shirt.
